Upon reviewing my recent activity here on livejournal, I discovered that I never finished my review of 2004. I recorded multiple entries at my Blogger account, http://dementia-nal.blogspot.com/. I copied my review of the best concerts here, but did not finish. Ooops. I switch back and forth between livejournal and blogger for my blogging activity. Like always, I have several blogs going at once (just like I have about a million and one e-mail accounts. Imagine that. I have online clutter everywhere. Why am I not surprised? Well, my life is cluttered. What can I say?

Current Listening - January 2005 Overall, I think that 2004 has been one of the best years for shows that I can remember. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend some awesome shows over the last twelve months. Here is a list of my favorite shows of the year 2004 (not in any order):
Psychic TV, Chop Suey, Seattle, November 6 P.J. Harvey, First Avenue, Mpls., October 1 P.J. Harvey, Showbox, Seattle, October 31 Le Tigre, Showbox, Seattle, date ? Throbbing Gristle, Astoria, London, U.K., May 16 Miss Kittin, Sound Bar, Chicago, July 22 Madonna, United Center, Chicago, July ?? Laibach, Neumo's, Seattle, November 20 Peaches and All The Pretty Horses, First Avenue, Mpls., May 8 Einsturzende Neubauten, First Avenue, Mpls., May 1 Sonic Youth, The Quest Club, Mpls., date ? Ministry and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, The Quest Club, Mpls., date ? Richie Hawtin, The Quest Club, Mpls., date ? Disappointments of the Year: -- Interpol, First Avenue, Mpls, - The place was so crowded and was really hard to see the band with the lack of lighting. We were also distracted by obnoxious drunk nearby who could not stand straight. -- The non-realization of the RE-TG event in England - Was supposed to be a "Celebration of Industrial Music," but was cancelled at last minute. At least, TG were kind enough to make it up to those who spent the dollars to travel all the way to the U.K. -- The fact that I will never get the chance to see Coil live. Jhonn Balance, RIP -- Missing N.E.R.D. because my friends were irritated and wanted to go home. The Black Eyed Peas were good, though. -- The fact that Modest Mouse and Death Cab for Cutie both sold out First Avenue this year. -- The near-closing of First Avenue (it closed and then, re-opened) -- I missed the Legendary Pink Dots for the third consecutive tour (exhaustion was at fault the first two times, the most recent time was that they played Mpls. the last day I was in London.) -- Missing Ellen Allien in Portland for financial reasons. I posted this over on my Blogger account as well - wanted to spread the word I am going to "cut" to the chase. I FUCKING HATE THE SCISSORS SISTERS! They are by the far the worst band of 2004. What doesn't make sense to me is the fact that everyone around me seems to LOVE them. Utter bullshit, if you ask me. The lead singer's pixiesque, sprite-ish voice grates on me so much. They were on SNL last Saturday night with Colin Farrell and were horrible. The lead singer's outfit during the second song, the horrific Pink Floyd cover, Comfortably Numb, was bad in a non-descript sort of way. Wait a minute. That outfit looks awfully familiar. Oh yeah, I think that I've seen that outfit on Sigourney Weaver. No, Sharon Stone. Nah, that can't be it. Wait - Angelina Jolie. Yeah, Angelina Jolie was the one. Aww, shucks. Dammit. Lord, I can never keep these actresses straight. i definitely will have to say that i have been lacking motivation lately to really do anything other than lay around and be lazy. is that such a bad thing? well, it is if i know in my mind that there is so much out there that i should be doing. i should be reading one of the ten or so books i have started but have not yet finished. i should be writing something new. i should be studying web design and taking digital video classes. but, no. i am not doing any of these things. well, i should start. like, right now! This is a very sad day for experimental music fans. http://www.thresholdhouse.com/index2.htm RIP Jhonn After a pretty dismal Election week, things are somewhat getting back to normal (well, if you call the re-election of a homophobic terrorist war-mongering president by rural "Jesusland," as many like to now acknowledge our country as...er, umm, if you want to call that "normal"). Things are lightening up - Psychic TV was fantastic last weekend. LeTigre, Laibach, and Ellen Allien in Portland are coming up next weekened. I don't quite know what I'd do if I was bored on top of having the dismal election in the back of my head. I got a job by the end of this week (two, actually), but am having second thoughts about having two jobs right now. I am just too tired to deal with working through the holiday retail season. I might change my mind if I do get the job at Banana Republic (interview was yesterday, as was the Bon-Macy's interview, which hired me that day...), but i am not too thrilled about working crazy sales and crazy hours at that place. Let's see how I feel about this week's events: 1. Bush's nominee for the new Attorney General: After reading the Slate article, this Gonzales guy sounds too incompetent for the post, but, then again, look who's nominating him. 2. Scott Peterson verdict: I am happy about this. I felt that he was guilty all along. I am sorry. He was caught with dyed hair and $15,000 in cash on his person and was allegedly on his way to Mexico. He was running. That, in itself, makes him guilty, IMO. 3. Washington Governor's Race: Dino Rossi is ahead of Christine Gregoire, but the vote margin, if it stays the way it is, a recount will be mandatory. I am keeping my fingers crossed. We do not need a Republican governor. Trust me. I am extremely disappointed by yesterday's election results. I am really bothered by the fact that rural Americans from Tallahassee, FL; Marietta, GA; and Boise, ID are dictating how I (as an openly gay man and MINORITY) and millions of other HUMAN BEINGS should live our lives. The thought is infuriating and ludicrous. Unfortunately, this is what our country is becoming. I have a friend who was speaking with utter doom in his voice, thinking that our country is becoming a fascist country. Well, I want to believe that we are not totally doomed. We will have to wait and see what happens over the next four years. Cheryl Jacques (from Human Rights Campaign) says that the fight for equality must go on. I absolutely agree with her 175%. I am devastated. That is all I can say about it for right now. Election day is here at last. I am relieved, but even more so if bush does NOT win. i started the month of october by seeing pj harvey on the 1st at first avenue in mpls and ended the month of october by seeing.....you've guessed it, pj harvey on the 31st at the showbox in seattle. the seattle show was better because she did down by the water, which is my favorite pj song. what an awesome way to start october and end october!!! i made it here to seattle in one piece with minimal irritation. both of my flights left on time with no trouble. i did not get stuck in phoenix (unlike last time), but WHOA! i was surrounded by hot guys when i waited to board my flight to seattle. my friend steven is one lucky man to be surrounded by hotness. Today was a good day. Tomorrow is going to be the start of a clean slate. I leave for Seattle tomorrow. It's been five years since I left the first time and am anxiously looking forward to being there again. I'm starting my stay there with an awesome concert (PJ Harvey) on Halloween eve. I saw PJ earlier this month here in Minneapolis and she was absolutely wonderful. This is not to say that I had any doubts before, but her beauty and great songwriting abilities have only gotten better with age and wisdom. Not to mention, she has better hair than Jennifer Aniston. PJ's haircut should be the next great craze that should sweep our great nation. Ground-breaking British radio broadcaster, John Peel, passed away. So, I am leaving for Seattle on Saturday morning and as of right now, I have not packed a damn thing. What the hell is that all about? Don't know, but I have just not been motivated. Motivation (or the lack thereof) and procrastination are the key reasons why I will be putting the packing into high gear. I must get my ass in gear. so i watching SNL last night (i mean, come on, JUDE LAW????) how could you miss that? ashlee simpson was the musical guest. i was tending to laundry right before her second performance and came back to find something slightly off. hmmm....the song sounded exactly like the first song. the vocal comes on, almost like she was lip syncing. then, she does this crazy little "hoedown" dance and walks off. then, commercial break. it left me really confused. well, i now read that the incident was blamed on a "computer glitch." Hmmm. an article i read compared it as one of those infamous incidents in SNL history, like the "sinead rips the picture of the pope in front of the camera" incident. maybe SNL is not soo live after all... so, i just saw the preview for 'birth', Nicole Kidman's new film, and i am kinda intrigued by it. the concept is extremely creepy (her character who meets a young boy who tells her he is a reincarnation of her ex-lover). there has been controversial over one scene where she is in a bathtub with the young boy. creepy. but, what i may be more intrigued about is her haircut in the film - extremely short and.....dark brown |
